My coach yells at me and I shut down.

Elijah's answer

Getting yelled at can make your body feel attacked, even when the correction is about basketball. When that happens, your brain stops listening for the lesson and starts protecting your pride. Then you miss the one thing that might help you. The next time it happens, ask one question inside your head. What is the adjustment? Not, does he hate me. Not, am I terrible. Just, what is the adjustment? If you can hear the correction without letting it define you, you become harder to shake. That is a real skill.
